Creating a Password Formula: for Safety and Convenience

Experts in technology suggest using a formula to make strong passwords. With a password formula, you can make passwords easily and remember them well. This way, you can keep your accounts safe. The best part is, you don't need to be good at math! There are many ways to create a password formula, but we'll give you a simple example that is super secure. If you prefer to be creative and make your own formula, feel free to do so! Just follow the basic guidelines that we explain in this blog post here to make sure your password is secure.

Step 1: Pick a 3-4 Digit Combination

To start your password formula, choose a combination of non-sequential letters or numbers that has 3 characters. You can use 3 numbers or 2 numbers and a capital letter. For example, you might pick a combination like 68R.

Remember, don't use personal information or things that identify you. Instead of using your area code, count the number of pens on your desk and use that. Be creative or make it random.

Step 2: Changing URL Letters

Next, take another part of your password formula from the URL of the website you want to log in to. Decide which letters of the URL you will use. For example, if you want to log in to www.viptsg.com, you can choose the first and last letter of the URL name to be part of your password. In this case, 'v' and 'g' would be the next part of your password. For Amazon, you would use 'a' and 'n', for Outlook, you would use 'o' and 'k', and so on for each different website.

This part of the password changes for every account. That's how you can make different passwords for each website and remember them. The middle part of the formula comes from the URL itself.

Step 3: Special Characters

Finally, add another combination that includes special characters to complete your formula. Let's say we use '9&$'. Now our formula looks like this:

68R [first and last letter of website URL] 9&$

[randomized 3-digit sequence] [two letters from the URL] [another randomized sequence with special characters]

You can add more letters and numbers at the beginning or end if you want. But because of the middle part of the formula, each password will be different for each website. It's still easy to remember as long as you know the formula.

That's it!

Now you know how to make a password formula. And when it's time to change your passwords for security, you can create a new formula to replace the old one.
